First ever Miss International Uganda representative unveiled

The first ever Miss International Uganda representative, Evelyn Namatovu has been unveiled to the public, Wednesday morning.

Arguably one of the oldest and biggest beauty pageants in the world, Miss International launched in the 1960s and has been happening every year in Tokyo Japan.

The pageant will be having its 59th edition this year and Uganda is one of the over 90 countries that will be contesting.

While launching the pageantry Wednesday morning at the Athena Hotel in Bugolobi, the Miss International Uganda pageant franchise National Director Monica Akech said that Uganda has not been participating due to the various requirements that frustrate the would be interested organisers.

Akech said that they acquired the license to operate as a Miss International franchise in Uganda in August this year which was already behind schedule since they had just one month to file in a name of the contestant to the Miss International organizers in Tokyo.

" We were tasked to get a girl who is beautiful, intelligent and one that has experience in pageantry. We didn't have a lot of time and that's why we conducted an online call call from which Evelyn was selected," Akech told the press.

The press launch was well attended by the family and friends of the representative, members of the press and at exactly 10:10am, Kironde slopped down for her unveiling in company of Leah Kagasa, the Miss Uganda 2016 and Mutesi Josephine who is the current Miss Earth.

In her speech, Namatovu said that, owing to her business background, she will focus on Business tourism since its one of the core values of Miss International with a lot of opportunities for Uganda.

She added that she will use her platform to gather resources for the youth in the creative industry.

"I will try to harness and exploit this opportunity since over 90 contestants from different countries will be gathered in Tokyo and I see a huge opportunity for us as a country," she said in part.

Namatovu also called upon Ugandans to give her support as she heads out to Tokyo.

Ayub Kato, the director of Smiling Faces who are part of the Miss International Uganda organising team said that they will be opening casting calls for interested participants in November where they will start preparations of selecting of selecting next years representative.

The Miss International 59th edition will be hosted in Tokyo, Japan with the grand finale slated of November 12th, 2019.

About Evelyn Namatovu

Evelyn Namatovu Kironde, 23, is a Ugandan model currently signed under Joram Model Management in Uganda.

She is a University finalist, awaiting graduation at Makerere University having pursued a Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management (BESBM).

She started modelling in early 2016 and in July that year, Evelyn contested in the Miss Uganda Beauty Pageant, finishing in the Top Five. Evelyn was also crowned Miss Beach Beauty (2016-2017) at the same pageant.

She has since went ahead to feature for various brands both on the run way and commercial modelling.
