Sanlam, Rotary partner to reward projects that impact communities

Sanlam General Insurance Uganda has partnered with Rotary to launch the Uganda Community Service Award aimed at rewarding projects that contribute to the wellbeing of society in different parts of the country.

Speaking at the launch of the awards, Sanlam CEO, Gary V. Corbit said the initiative is aimed at providing financial support to the most outstanding projects that support communities in which they do business.

“We are conscious of the fact that there are several other individuals and brands alike that are involved in a myriad of social causes for the benefit of needy communities in Uganda. Because Sanlam is cognizant of this fact, we took a decision to launch the Sanlam Uganda Community Service Award, a core part of our company that seeks to reward the contribution of different actors in Corporate Social Responsibility,” Corbit said.

He noted that through the award, they will be focusing on projects started and operated by Rotarians in various parts of the country.

According to the Sanlam Board Director, Rose Lilian Lubwama, the awards are part of their deliberate decisions to in interactions with different stakeholders in the markets they operate from.

“Besides our position as a market leader, Sanlam’s has made it a business mandate to be a virtuous corporate citizen and is devoted to conducting its business in a responsible manner, a position cascaded from the Group’s sustainability vision through corporate social investment,”Lubwama said.

The Rotary District D9211 Governor, Francis Xavier Sentamu said the partnership will go a long way in supporting their initiatives of changes societies in which they live.

“We are involved in projects that have a lasting impact and providing lasting solutions. This partnership with Sanlam is a testament to the kind of social and community influence that Rotarians across the country are making,”Ssentamu said.

“It takes a lot of commitment and sacrifice for one to dedicatedly volunteer in solving real-life social issues and the partnership will go a long way in giving courage to member clubs to continue initiatives that create impact in society.”

According to Sanlam, only Rotary member clubs will be allowed to participate in the completion by entering their various projects and the three top clubs or initiatives will be rewarded.

The winners will take shs20 million, whereas the first and second runners up will take shs15million and 10 million respectively.

The awards are open to all rotary member clubs throughout the country.
