Fresh landslide hits Manafwa (VIDEO)

Residents of Bunamungoma parish in Manafwa district are living in fear following another landslide that ravaged the area on Friday evening,  destroying crops.

The landslide occured in a scar of a previous landslide that displaced several families in 2017.

Over 200 households were earmarked for resettlement following the 2017 landslide. Out of these, only 4 families were resettled in Bulambuli.

Residents are now appealing to government to fastrack the resettlement process.

In June Office of the Prime minister resettled 101 families from Bududa, and neighbouring districts to Bunambutye resettlement project.

OPM plans to build 900 houses in Bunambutye to resettle mudslide victims in Elgon region in a phased manner.

The second phase of 300 houses is underway.

However, this approach has has been challanged by some opinion leaders saying that houses may take longer to finish before all people are evacuated from the high risk areas.
