UPL: Vipers, URA fly high on cloud nine as Express is beaten

It was a mixture of results on Friday as day one of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League continued in different stadia around the country.

At Namboole, taxmen, Uganda Revenue Authority gave a good account of their transfer spending spree when they beat Maroons three-nil in their opening game of the season.

The tax collectors took the lead only 16 minutes after kickoff when debutant Hassan Kalega set up subsequent man of the match, Saidi Kyeyune to fire home URA FC’s opener at Namboole on Thursday evening.

Later, Maroon’s Ronald Orombi connected himself for the taxmen’s second goal before former KCCA FC midfielder, Ivan Ntege sealed the deal for URA with an excellent finish of Kyeyune’s set up for the team’s third goal to ensure they had a perfect start to this year’s StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The Viper spits venom

At Wankulukuku, Vipers SC showed intent to reclaim the trophy they lost to KCCA FC last season when they beat Bright Stars 3-1 in another StarTimes Uganda Premier League encounter on Friday.

The hosts took the lead through a defender Enock Walusimbi 28th minute header for Bright Stars to finish the first stanza in the driving seat but little did they know that the Kitende based team would return in full force.

After recess, Edward Golola’s boys showed they had not come for jokes at Wankulukuku with Abraham Ndugwa, Brian Nkuubi and Dan ‘Muzeeyi’ Sserunkuuma all seeing the back of the net to see off Bright Stars at ensure a perfect start.

Express beaten

In Njeru, the Red Eagle was fried using oil manufactured by Bidco Uganda Limited in another StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

A Deogratious Ojok 14th minute goal was enough for BUL to edge Express FC whose woes seemed to be far from over.
