Retired Supreme Court Judge Karokora dies

The judiciary is mourning the death of retired Supreme Court Judge Alfred Karokora who passed on at the age of 83 on Friday evening.

According to family members, the retired judge died of high blood pressure while being rushed to a medical facility in Mbarara.

The judiciary confirmed the retired justice’s death.

Biography

Born in 1936, Justice Alfred Karokora served the judiciary for over 40 years until 2006 when he retired to his home in Mbarara.

Karokora did a lay magistrates diploma course at Nsamizi Law School before joining Makerere University for a degree in law and graduated in 1973.

He did his Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at the Law Development Centre in Wandegeya .

Karokora was made a Chief Magistrate in 1978 and in 1981, he was appointed an acting judge of the High Court of Uganda before he was confirmed three years later in 1984.

He served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda for a period of ten years between 1996 and November 2006 when he retired at the age of 70.
