Police reward school whose kids were beaten by Kitatta’s Boda Boda 2010

The police force has rewarded Winterland Primary School in Kyebando whose pupils were beaten by members of the defunct Boda Boda 2010 which was headed by jailed Abdalla Kitatta.

In 2017, at the height of their activities, Boda Boda 2010 members stopped a bus belonging to Winterland Primary School and was carrying pupils who were heading to Nkumba to perform at the police day celebrations beating the police officer who was escorting the bus, before injuring a crime preventer who was also in the bus.

Some of the pupils were also beaten in an incident at Busega roundabout that attracted criticism from the public towards police for not taking action on the goons who terrorised innocent people.

On Monday, the school was rewarded for its efforts towards fighting crime through composition of songs urging the public to embrace community policing.

“We thank them for contributing to the fight against crime in their area through their songs,” IGP Okoth Ochola said before handing them a certificate.

“There is no justification for beating and injuring someone. Who deployed them there? We shall battle in court with them,” AIP Abraham Bbaale, the Community Liaison Officer at Kawempe police station who was escorting the school bus said.

The children were also seen crying inside the bus after their teachers being beaten.

Jamilu Kiragga, 30, a crime preventer was beaten to the pulp before he was later rushed to hospital.

When asked about the unfortunate incident, the school director said despite the pupils being shocked at what befell them, it never took them off the track.

“They were beaten but we comforted them and continued with our relationship with police. The incident never drew us away from our course.”
