Luweero: Minister Muyingo rallies locals to fight poverty

The state minister for Higher Education Dr. John  Chrysostom Muyingo has rallied locals and leaders of Bamunanika in Luwero district to diversify their income in a bid to reduce and eradicate poverty in their households.

He told the locals that  government programmes such as Operation Wealth Creation will help to improve on personal income hence eradicating poverty.

He made the remarks during the launch of Bamunanika Local Development Association (BLDA) where he donated Shs 30 million to help in the smooth running of the association.

He emphasised the need to create more income generating activities such as forming development associations, engaging in trade among others noting that such activities will help to improve on the lives of people in the community.

Muyingo noted that people's  involvement in wealth creation will ensure that all suggested programmes reflect those things that are important to them.

"If you want to eradicate poverty in your households, devise all the possible legal means to generate income and minimise expenses other than spending extravagantly," he said.

He advised the people to stop marrying many wives and giving birth to many children because it will only increase their daily expenses.

"I am not saying that marrying two wives is bad  and even giving birth to many children is not bad in our society but if it is leading to an increase in expenses, then you must stop so that we  fight poverty in our households," he said.

He encouraged the locals to actively participate in all activities which can help to diversify their income such as trade as a path out of poverty.
