Missing Bobi Wine aide Ziggy Wine found, eye plucked out, several fingers cut off

Police has cleared the air on the death of Michael Kalinda, also known as Ziggy Wyne who died on Sunday night.

Earlier reports indicated that Kalinda, a close associate to Kyadondo East legislator and fellow musician Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine had been kidnapped and had his eye plucked out and fingers cut off.

Addressing a news conference on Tuesday afternoon, police spokesperson Fred Enanga said investigations had indicated that the deceased was involved in a nasty accident along the Northern bypass on July 21 at around 7pm as he returned home.

“He was riding a Honda motorcycle between Kalerwe and Kyebando and the rider suddenly swerved from the left to the opposite side of the road and knocked one Loy Atworo,25 as she returned home,”Enanga said.

The police mouthpiece explained that investigations indicated that after the accident, both Ziggy Wyne and Atworo who was now unconscious were rushed to a nearby health facility identified as Hope Clinic in Kyebando where first aid was given to the duo.

According to the police narrative, at Hope Clinic, he female victim was picked by relatives and taken to another health facility whereas the singer who had identification documents and phone on him stayed at the clinic.

“When the clinic proprietor arrived, he advised that the victim be taken to Mulago hospital and consequently he(Ziggy Wyne) was put on a Boda Boda at around 8pm and transferred to Mulago hospital.”
Nurse speaks out

According to Simon Aheebwa Kule, an enrolled nurse at Hope Clinic on the fateful day at around 8pm two accident victims were brought to him.

“Both were unconscious but the male patient was bleeding from the mouth and nose whereas two of his fingers had issues. I dressed the wounds but realised he (Ziggy Wyne) needed to be referred to a bigger hospital,”Kule told journalists.

“Because he had a closed end injury, I made an assessment an asked a colleague to get a bod boda to take him to Mulago causality department.”

The nurse noted that on the following day, he went to Mulago to check on the patient but was told he needed a CT scan and there was no relative to handle him.

However, according to the police spokesperson, six days after being admitted to Mulago, Kalinda’s relatives picked him and took him to Nsambya hospital but when the situation deteriorated, the patient was referred back to Mulago neurosurgical facility from where he passed on.

Another victim of the accident told journalists that as she returned home from work, she was knocked by a speeding motorcycle.

“I got wounds all over the body but that is when I stopped knowing what was happening,”Atworo said.

She narrated that she does not know how she was removed from the accident scene.

Police warns public
Following the death of the singer, a number of people including Bobi Wine accused government of foul play in the death of his close friend.

The police spokesperson however warned that it is wrong for some elements to politicise the matter.

“Relatives very well knew the circumstances but concealed the information from the public and police They transferred him from Mulago to Nsambya but they let political opportunists leverage on the same,” Enanga said.

“This is not the way to work. There are other holistic ways to get votes from the public.”

When asked about allegations of wounds on the deceased’s body, Enanga said after the accident, the motorcycle fell on his body and subsequently got burnt by the exhaust pipe.
