The Uganda Police has launched investigations into circumstances through which Michael Kalinda alias Ziggy Wine, was allegedly kidnapped, tortured and burnt with a flat iron before being dumped a few meters from Mulago Hospital and succumbing to injuries on the night of Sunday, August, 4th 2019.
Speaking about the incident on Monday, August 5, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga told the press at the Naguru based Police headquarters that they are going to intensify investigations in the matter to bring justice to the deceased’s family.
Enanga said that Police had already dispatched a team to go and collect CCTV footage from Mulago Hospital to help them in investigations on who dumped the singer at the site days before his death.
“The teams have already gone to Mulago hospital to retrieve the CCTV that could give us pointers on which means or personalities dumped him (Ziggy Wine) there, We have opened a death inquiry file to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Kalinda and our regional team in Kawempe has taken up the matter,” Enanga said in part.
Meanwhile, there was a heavy deployment at City mortuary, Mulago hospital in the early morning of Monday with Police trying to make sure that the family and people who had come to receive the body of Ziggy Wine maintain order.
The family claims that they didn’t coordinate with Police after the kidnap of their member because of the threats and strange phone calls from strangers warning them to be careful.
Enanga however has called up the family to work in hands with the Police saying that they will be protected.
“We always consider threats to life very seriously. We don’t take sides, the family should work with us during these investigations,” Enanga said in part.
Ziggy Wine was a member of the Firebase entertainment crew led by musician turned legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Ziggy Wine now joins the long line of Bobi Wine’s close allies who have been kidnapped and allegedly tortured before being dumped off although many of these survived.
The Blogger and people power follower was allegedly kidnapped earlier this year although he was found weeks later.
Makerere University former ‘people power’ guild contestant, Mukisa William was also kidnapped in May only to be found with his body scarred.
