Amelia Kyambadde: “People have tried to bribe me but I have turned them down"

The minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambadde has revealed that she has been a victim of corruption whereby many people could approach her to offer her a bribe.

“Let me tell you, I have been a victim. People walk up to you, want to give you offers but I tell them I am earning a salary here, and then they say this woman is very difficult," she said.

While addressing a business dialogue in Kampala, Kyambadde noted that she is tired of people who entice her with bribes every other day.

Kyambadde who has served in the same docket for the last 8 years vowed to take serious action.

“Let us step up the fight against corruption. Corruption is insidiously eating up our economy and bureaucracy, you were given a job do your job. Why do you ask for money?" she asked.

She however elaborated that corruption is two way traffic: the one who is offering and the beneficiary.

“Let me do my work for you because I know my salary is coming," she said.

She said that there are some unscrupulous people who are busy extorting money from small medium enterprises which is not good.
