The Democratic Party Bloc has said that it has designed a strategy with other opposition forces in a bid to dislodge President Museveni from power come 2021 elections.

Addressing the media at a weekly press conference at the party headquarters in Kampala, Democratic Party bloc led by Michael Mabikke unveiled new strategy dubbed: “The new special purpose vehicle” with a plan to present one opposition candidate for president in 2021.

According to the framework, willing opposition groups will form a coalition to front a joint candidate and a running mate who would subsequently become vice president.

“This intense struggle by the Ugandan masses cannot fail if based on unity of all democracy seeking forces and transforming Uganda beyond Museveni. The aim of our plan therefore is to restore a renewed sense of ownership of the country to its citizens,”Mabikke said.

He noted that there is need for fresh renegotiation and that Uganda needs a new political consensus.

He said DP has spent at least four months working tirelessly to develop a comprehensive framework for a united front to present viable change.

"That work is now complete and I wish to announce that we are ready to share this framework with other democracy seeking forces for discussions. It is our expectation that we will agree on a special purpose vehicle to lead the charge for democratic change in our country," he said.

Dr. Abed Bwanika a member of DP bloc noted that this is the right time for the entire opposition to talk business by joining forces to see that President Museveni is out of power come 2021.

"That’s why DP bloc has made its proposal on the special vehicle that will bring us together, that would bring our energy together so that the people of Uganda can get the change they desire," he said.
