Police arrests suspects behind motorcycle robberies

The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of a man suspected to be the ring leader of a gang carrying out robberies and terrorising boda boda riders in the Kampala metropolitan area.

While addressing the media at the police headquarters, the spokesperson Fred Enanga noted that the force has made a significant progress in recovering guns and tracking down suspects involved in the recent murders and robberies in the Kampala metropolitan areacycle.
“Our territory police in Kampala metropolitan south has been conducting intelligence led operation to dismantle the suspected gang of dealers in stolen motorcycles and spare parts in the areas of Katwe, Natete and Nalukolongo which appear to be a herb for stolen motorcycles and spare parts,”he said.
He stated that police have arrested 13 suspects and two suspects have been transferred to Mityana where the motorcycles were stolen, one to Fort Portal and others are detained at Special investigation Unit Kireka.
He revealed that the force has recovered 45 motorcycles, 55 number plates, 25 motorcycle frames and 25 engines.
He said that police has revamped its relations with private security companies.
This comes as result of the shooting of one person at a shopping mall in Naalya which was carried out by a security guard.
“The emphasis is going to be through inspection of pre employment checks, training, supervision and customer service," he noted.
