Uganda National Commission for UNESCO together with the Islamic Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization {ISESCO} has organized a camp of excellence for mentoring girls in human development.

The mentoring camp that gathers outstanding girls in high schools, from different back grounds with a view to embracing subjects in social and human development to enhance their participation in development.

The objective sought by ISESCO is to prepare these girls to assume their role as future leaders, to bring insights and solve major social issues in their communities.

Speaking at the opening of the camp, Professor Eliab Lugujo on behalf of Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development Hajat Janat Mukwaya  said this camp is based on the social values and character building, beyond academics.

"Its activities focus on social cohesion, leadership, personal development, interpersonal inclusion all under one theme; lead and serve the country.” Prof. Lugujo said.

He went on to emphasise that, “All development is human centered. We need to achieve a population dividend, when I look at you represent latent population, and the future is now.”

The secretary general for Uganda National Council for UNESCO Rosie Agoi says that the mission is to provide intellectual leadership, engage Ugandans to participate in and influence ISESCO programmes and activities and to contribute to peace and sustainable development.

She added that the camp of excellence for mentoring girls in human development is an activity across the education, social and human science as well as culture and communication and information.

She highlighted that this camp has been well thought through to make a difference in the lives of the girls so that they grow into well nurtured global citizens.

ISESCO chose Uganda to host the international camp that has participants from Nigeria, Sudan, Makerere College School, Kinaawa SS, Bilal SS, and Bweyogerere SS.
