Districts urged on value addition of products

The permanent secretary in the ministry of Local Government Ben Kamumanya has urged district leaders to identify five products so that government can set up mechanisms to improve value addition.

"We want you to give us five products that your district is doing which can be supported in value addition,"he said.

He made the remarks while meeting the district chairpersons and municipal district council mayors in Kampala to discuss ways of opening their potential.

He noted that if local governments are transformed into vibrant economies capable of delivering quality services, they would generate their local revenue and provide economical opportunities and jobs to their people.

“Is there any person in Kampala that can describe and provide solutions to the social economic transformation better than the local leaderships?" he asked.

He added that for the country like Uganda that is still developing should embrace industrialisation and its enumerated in the government plan including vision 2040.

He emphasised value addition on the selected products and challenged local council leaders to avail land for industrialisation which will increase employment opportunities.

“If we want to create a space for economic development for future employment, we must start with industrial parks. So we are coming to you to help us politically to identify land for each district for industrial park and the earlier the better,” he said.
