Sheik Muzaata tells Uganda Joint Christian Council to leave issues of Islamic banking to muslims

MUHAMAD MATOVU

The Spokesperson Kibuli Muslim faction, Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata Batte has said the opposition to Islamic banking by the Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC) is aimed at crippling the progress of Islam as a religion

While delivering his sermon at Masjid Mbogo Kawempe during Eid-el- Fitr prayers, Muzaata urged UJCC to leave the issues they don’t understand to Muslims.

“Why was Mubajje left out of this council (UJCC) it is because they know Muslims are part of Inter Religious Council," he said.

He noted that Muslims have endured many challenges regarding Islamic banking and yet it is to benefit all Ugandans.

“As Muslims, we thank government for passing the Islamic Banking Act but we shall not allow anybody who wants to block our way in regards to this matter," he noted.

He stated that by UJCC asking government to delay the operationalisation of the bank is ridiculous and Muslims cannot tolerate such suggestion.

“If you don’t understand Islamic banking or what it means, we want to advise you to leave our issues," he said.

He added that Muslims are not ready for any battle so, UJCC should not meddle and interrupt the progress and matter regarding Islamic finance.

“Centenary Bank is catholic founded, did we tell you that we don’t understand its system?" he asked.

He further urged Muslims maintain the good behaviour they have exhibited during the Holy month of Ramadan .
