Judgment in car bond murder case against Ssebuwufu deferred

Justice Flavia Senoga of the High Court in Kampala has deferred the judgment in the murder case of Pine car bond proprietor Muhammad Ssebuwufu to next month.

Ssebuwufu is charged together with seven others of kidnap and the murder of Betty Donah Katusabe in 2015 who the businessman owed money for a car she had bought.

On Thursday, Justice Senoga said she would deliver her judgment on June 17, 2019 when it is fully ready.

“The judgment is not yet ready now but it will be ready by June 17 in the morning,” the judge said.

Ssebuwufu is accused together with Godfrey Kayiza, Philp Mirambe, Stephen Lwanga, Paul Tasingika, Yoweri Kitayimbwa, Damaseni Ssentongo and Shaban Otuddu.

The group of seven is accused of masterminding the murder of Dona Katusabe, a city businesswoman who was tortured to death at Pine car bond in Kampala for failing to pay a balance of Shs 9 million for a car she had earlier bought.

Prosecution alleges that the accused on October 21, 2015 at Pine Car Bond on Lumumba Avenue in Kampala murdered Katusabe and robbed her of her mobile phone valued at Shs300, 000 before killing her using a panga and sticks.

In his defence, Ssebuwufu denied any wrongdoing saying he had no reason to kidnap Katushabe for she had given him a post-dated cheque for payment of his balance.

“I could not waste my time to look for Katusabe because I had retained the car logbook which was still in my name. If the cheque had bounced, I could easily rush to Uganda Revenue Authority and lodge a caveat,”Ssebuwufu said in his defence.
