DPP drops charges against Siraje Bakaleke

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has today dropped all charges of kidnap and fraud against senior police officer Siraje Bakaleke, Nile Post has learnt.

Siraje Bakaleke (ACP) has been facing charges of fraud and kidnap with together other six senior police officers and two other people.

Now State Prosecutor Harriet Angom has told court during the case mentioning earlier today that the Director of Public Prosecutions has decided to drop any proceedings against the accused.

"I would like to inform this honourable court that the Director of Public Prosecutions has decided to discontinue all the proceedings against the accused persons," the State Prosecutor told court this morning.

Siraje Bakaleke has been facing charges of defrauding and kidnapping South Korean business men. It is reported that in February 2018 the ACP together with six police officers, a lawyer identified as Paul Wanyoto and businessman Samuel Nabeta defrauded three South Korean business men of Shs. 1.5 billion ($415,000) in a gold scam.

The six police officers were identified as Kenneth Zirintusa, Gustavus Babu, Robert Assimwe, Innocent Nuwagaba, Junior Amanya and Robert Munerezo
