Singer, Grace Nakimera, makes a difference through Feed the Street Foundation

Just like the message in ‘Nkwagala kufa’, one of her hits, singer Grace Nakimera’s love for less privileged people drover her into feeding the souls of street children.

In the ‘Nkwagala Kufa’ hit, Nakimera sings about someone she loves so much that she would do everything it takes to ensure they are together and through her ‘Feed the Street Foundation’ she touches the lives of street children through preaching and teaching them about God and how they can live good lives.

“There was a time I was in a tight situation where a meal was hard to get and I prayed to God to get me through it with a promise of paying back. By helping street children I am fulfilling the promise I made to God to make life better for someone,”Nakimera said.

She says in 2018, she started the ‘Feed the Street Foundation’ as the only way to try and change lives for communities .

Through the foundation, she reaches out to various communities where street children reside and try to change their lives.

“We collect street children, have a meal with them and preach to them about God and life. We try to make a better world for them by preaching to their souls so they can abandon street life,” she narrated.

She says that various LC 1 leaders call them in a bid to share experiences and how to overcome problems with the street children and also have fun with them.

On Easter, Nakimera, together with Feed the Street Foundation carried out a number of activities in Katooke, Kireka in Wakiso district.

“We enjoyed an Easter meal together with the less privileged children and we shared a number of life stories. We had between 200 and 300 children and most of them were street kids. We shared with them the word of God.”

She says that in the interactions with the children, they also try to look out for their parents if available and try to seek for solutions to their problems and see how to help the children realize normal lives just like other children.

“It is not just that we feed them but it is a session to hear each other out. They talk to me and I do the same to them so I get to know who does not have where to sleep. We try to find out who does not have a mattress and those who can’t access education services due to a number of reasons. We try to assist them out.”

Build home for children

She says the charity organisation constructed a home for children in Iganga where they have over 30 less privileged children under their care.

She narrates that prior to their intervention, over 10 kids had been left under the care of an old woman and they were living in a ramshackle house.

“Some of the kids under the care of the old woman had been abandoned after one month of birth that it made us get touched.  We shared the story on social media and within no time, well -wishers had provided some of the materials that enabled us build a better home for them,”Nakimera says.

“What was more touching was that after only a month after moving the family to a decent home, the house in shambles collapsed.”

She says they are looking at constructing another home in Mukono from where they will look after less privileged children, feed and also counsel them.

The singer however asks the public to support the charity foundation which she says is in its infancy as it tries to change the world for less privileged children.

“You can choose to pay school fees for one or two children. You can also provide clothes or food for these children.”

“You don’t have to be rich to help the poor and less privileged. The little you have can make a difference for them.”
