"I have not stopped anyone from leading the struggle" says Dr Besigye

MUHAMAD MATOVU

Dr. Kizza Besigye has said that the opposition in Uganda must work as a united force if they are to dislodge President Museveni.

Speaking on NBS TV’s morning Breeze show, the four-time presidential candidate stated that the opposition leaders have never been united but the people of Uganda have always been united and want change.

"The people of Uganda are not divided at all and they have never been, even in the last elections we have been with leaders who are not united but people have always been united and its good we leaders become united” he said

Dr Besigye said opposition must unite on principle not just to jostle for positions "because there is nothing to lead without first regaining the country and the struggle is to end the rule by a few people."

He said no one should be discouraged from joining the struggle.

“We are looking for as many fighters as we can and I have been very clear whoever wants to lead the fight come and lead, I have never stopped anybody from leading the fight” he stated.

Besigye added that he never set out to seek leadership and he has never contested for any office until 2001.

“The opposition is not me or Norbert Mao. The opposition in Uganda are the people who are discontented with the junta. The struggle is a protracted one that will take time because it has processes," he said.

He described that the struggle is composed of predictable areas of confrontation and is not only his struggle but it’s a struggle that must be dominated by all Ugandans.

“External forces controlled Uganda for about 70 years using guns but since they left we have never had the ability to change leaders. All leaders come and go with guns “he explained

Besigye said he is fighting the rule by guns.
