Museveni appoints former Makerere deputy vice –chancellor Prof. Bakibinga to presidential awards committee
President Museveni has appointed former Makerere University deputy vice- chancellor Prof.David Bakibinga to the presidential awards committee.
In a letter dated April 12, 2019, the Minister for Presidency Esther Mbayo, Prof.Bakibinga will be part of the nine man committee in charge of presidential awards.
“His excellency the President has in exercise of the powers vested in him under section 4(i) b of the National Honours and Awards Act 2001, appointed some new members to the above committee for a period of 60 months with effect from March 29,2019,”Esther Mbayo’s letter reads.
Other new faces on the committee include Gabindade Musoke, the former Permanent Secretary in the lands ministry and John Emily Oteka, the former Asilo county MP in Serere district.
The committee is headed by Dr.Beatrice Wabudeya and has Gen.Caleb Akandwanaho, also known as Salim Saleh among others as members.
The Presidential Awards Committee was created in 2001 with a duty of recognizing and conferment of titles of honor, decoration, medals, awards and orders to various individuals for their contribution to the country.
The committee is responsible for independence and heroes day medals among others.
Prof.David Justine Bakibinga is a former legal secretary for tax body, Uganda Revenue Authority between 1991 and 1997 and also served as the deputy vice chancellor for Makerere University.
