However, according to Kampala Minister Beti Olive Namisango Kamya, this specific event which also will be graced by Museveni is aimed at reflecting on the gains of the women movement in Kampala and chart a roadmap on where “we would like to go’.
Kamya claims that the event has targeted over 1000 women from all walks of life.
“Women make up more than half of Kampala City’s population. KCCA recognises the important role women play in the development of the city. On the occasion of the international women’s day celebrations, we salute the gallant ladies in Kampala who dedicate their time and energy to fend for their families. Women who have chosen to get out of their comfort zones and work diligently to get themselves out of poverty and contribute to national development,” Kamya mentions a statement.
As part of the celebrations, women will be entertained by several female artistes and provided a litany of free services among which include; HIV/AIDs counselling and testing, Hepatitis B and Cervical Cancer screening and financial literacy sessions.
Specific people within the Authority have mentioned off record that the event by Kamya is not meant for women, but a ploy to provide Museveni who was recently endorsed as NRM sole candidate, platform to campaign.
