Over 300 NRM MPs head for Kyankwanzi retreat, likely to endorse Museveni sole candidature

Legislators under their umbrella body the NRM Parliamentary Caucus have Wednesday evening left to attend the eight day retreat at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi vowing to endorse the CEC resolution of President Museveni’s sole candidature.

The NRM legislators, however, are divided on endorsing the CEC resolution of lining behind candidates for the Parliamentary flag bearers ahead of the 2021 general elections.

The NRM legislators in the National Parliament, NRM leaning Independents and NRM Ugandan representatives in the East African Legislative Assembly departed at Parliament aboard four UWA buses for the eight day retreat at National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi.

Before setting off, these legislators disclosed some of the key issues they will focus on which includes brainstorming on ideas that will revamp the Country’s economy among others.

The NRM legislators have vowed to endorse the NRM CEC resolution of President Museveni’s sole candidature in the Party a head of the general elections of 2021.

The NRM legislators however, they are divided on endorsing the CEC resolution of lining behind candidates for the Parliamentary flag bearers ahead of the 2021 general elections.

On Thursday President Museveni is expected to officially open the eight day retreat where six core rebel NRM Mp’s have been banned. The retreat will end on the 20th of this month.

According to the NRM senior communications manager Rogers Mulindwa...

"The National Chairman will also give a keynote address on Building a Resilient and an Intergrated Self-Sustaining Economy. Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Ruhakana Rugunda will Chair this session.

In the afternoon, former Executive Director of Uganda Investment Authority Dr. Maggie Kigozi will take the Legislators and other invited members through the Lessons, Challenges and Prospects of Investment Promotion. Other speakers today will include Mr. Patrick Bitature, the Chairman Simba Group of Companies and Mr. Kajabugo-Rusoke, a Senior Lecturer at NALI.

The Retreat will among others help participants to appreciate the performance of Government in the implemenration of the major sectors of the NRM Party Manifesto 2016-2021.

The Retreat runs under the theme, Industrialisation for Job Creation and Shared Prosperity 

The NRM Secretary General Rt. Hon. Justine Kasule Lumumba will later in the week present a paper on the topic, Towards 2021: Milestones and Strategies for the Party

This retreat is coordinated by the office of the Government Chief Whip Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa Sentamu who also doubles as the Chairperson of the NRM Parliamentary Caucus."
