Makerere saga: Embattled Prof Nawangwe rushes to Kadaga

Prof Barnabas Nawangwe today morning sought the intervention of the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga in the ongoing row between him and a section of staff at Makerere University, sources have told The Nile Post has learned.

Sources told us that Nawangwe today met Kadaga at her office at Parliament to enlist her support in the endless standoffs at Makerere.

The details of the private meeting are still scanty but yesterday while appearing before the Education committee, Nawangwe defended his hard stance towards some staff saying he needed to institute discipline at Uganda's leading university.

Ever since Barnabas Nawangwe suspended Dr Deus Kamunyu, the chairperson of Makerere University Academic Staff Association, from the university, lecturers under the umbrella of MAUSA have been on strike and all efforts to unite the two warring factions have not yielded much.

Details later...
