COSASE summons Kasekende, Bagyenda over their properties

Featured

The Parliamentary Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) today  resolved that Dr Loius Kasekende, the deputy governor of the central bank and Justine Bagyenda, the former executive director in Bank of Uganda appear before a select committee of members to explain how they came to own a number of properties in and around Kampala

Last year Odonga Otto, the Aruu County MP tabled documents showing that Kasekende and Bagyenda owned a number of properties.

Kasekende dismissed the documents as fake but Abdu Katuntu, the COSASE chairperson deferred the matter to a sub committee.

Tomorrow, the subcommittee headed by Anita Among, the Bukedea Woman MP, will interface with Bagyenda and Kasekende.

Meanwhile, the committee today failed to conclude their investigations into the closure of the seven defunct commercial banks.

This came after officials from Bank of Uganda led by the Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile appeared before the Committee without supporting documents to their responses to queries raised by the former shareholders of the defunct banks.

The meeting at Parliament between members on COSASE and officials from Bank of Uganda started with Katuntu informing the members on how the Monday interface will be the last into their investigations.

Yet this was premature talk officials from Bank of Uganda could not provide the necessary supporting documents to their responses on queries raised by the former shareholders of the defunct banks.

In today's sitting, the committee grilled Evelyn Nanyonga, the director of SIL Investments which bought assets of some of the defunct banks.

Asked for documentation, she said the thieves broke into her office and disappeeared with the documents.

The committee will meet again tomorrow.
