The Kampala- Jinja highway and particularly in Mabira has been prone to fatal accidents for a number of years.

In July last year, a speeding Coaster lost control and overturned as the driver  tried to overtake a trailer,  killing three people and injuring others in Mabira forest.

A traffic police report released last year indicated that over 3000 people had been killed and over 10,000 injure in over 10,000 accidents in the year 2017 on Ugandan roads.

The report indicated that slightly less than 1000 of the deaths had been in car crashes whereas over 900 were pedestrians.

The police attributed the accidents to mainly reckless driving, over speeding and over loading among other causes.
