The accident occurred at around 2:45pm when a garbage trunk plate no UAM 486x belonging to Home Klin Uganda Ltd lost control on Sir Apollo road ramming into other motorists.
The truck rammed into a taxi, a boda boda with a passenger and a goods tricycle that was transporting alcoholic beverages.
Speaking to the Nile Post, Police spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said among the dead is an army officer whose details are yet to be verified.
At the scene, the road was littered with garbage and broken glass as shocked bypassers recounted what they had witnessed.
Some of the eye witnesses said they accidents have become common on the steep slope of the road as heavy vehicles ignore traffic rules or are mechanically unsound.
However, many opportunists looted beer out of the tricycle and started drinking at the scene.
The injured and the bodies of the victims have been transferred to Mulago referral hospital for further assessment.
