MUASA vows to strike if university council doesn't expel old members

Makerere University Academic Staff Association ( MUASA) on Thursday stormed  a council meeting demanding for the immediate removal of  Eng Dr Wana Etyem, Bruce Kabaasa  and  Thomas Tayebwa from the council or  they  lay down their  tools

Led by the association chairman Dr Deus Kamunyu, they pitched camp near the door way  waiting for an opportunity to storm the ongoing council meeting to ensure that the three member of the council they blacklisted didn’t attend the meeting.

However this was not possible as

the Makerere security team maintained tight security during the meeting forcing

the MUASA staff into an exchange with the police officers  saying they are encroaching on their rights to

express themselves.

Benet Magara, the chairman of Makerere University administrative staff also expressed discontent on why their representative to the council was locked out of the meeting  yet she was duly elected.

In response, the head of security at Makerere university said he was under orders not to let her in for her election was null and void

Tayebwa, who is MP for Ruhinda North , wondered why MUASA wants them out yet the public voted them.

In a letter  dated December 19, MUASA  noted that Etyem, Kabaasa  and  Tayebwa were cited by the Rwendeire  committee as  being part of the bad governance and were accused of  tainting the image of the university.
