Event managers, promoters petition Kadaga over ‘ban’ on Bobi Wine concerts

A group of event managers, promoters and musicians have petitioned the speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga over the blocking of singer and Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi also known as Bobi Wine from holding concerts.

The group of over 10 people on Thursday told Kadaga that on a number of occasions, huge losses have been incurred after security agencies led by police stopped Bobi Wine’s concerts in various parts of the country.

“Once Bobi Wine is

booked for a concert, it will definitely be cancelled. We are tired of police interfering

with our concerts over unclear reasons,” singer Ronald Mayinja told Kadaga.

Promoter Abbey Musinguzi, also known as Abtex told Kadaga that they have incurred huge losses especially in concerts where Bobi Wine is supposed to perform because police has gone on to cancel over  unclear circumstances.

“This is a fight against the entertainment industry and if police is not reigned upon, the industry will be in problems. Something needs to be done,” Musinguzi said.

Police has in the past cancelled concerts where Bobi Wine was supposed to perform including at his own One Love Beach in Busaabala, Mityana, Namboole and Masaka among other areas.

The music promoters and event managers asked Kadaga to help amplify their concerns in regards to the concerts.

On December 15, police spent the entire combing City Hotel in Jinja town that they had raided in search for Bobi Wine who was slated to perform at a show in Jinja.

He later said police

had ordered his team out of the town before stopping him from performing at the

concert over unclear reasons.
