In a bid to bring peace and unity between the Acholi and Madi, refugees and the host communities have started an annual football tournament.

This year’s tournament was hosted in Adjumani with teams from both Uganda and South Sudan, as the two countries try to use every avenue to bring everlasting peace and unity to the host communities and refugees in Northern Uganda.

According to the host cultural leader his Royal Highness Drani Stephen of the Madi in Adjumani, the tournament is meant to educate the youth from both countries about making the right choices regardless of political pressures.

He encouraged the young people from both Uganda and South Sudan to stand up and use their energy positively to build their respective nations peacefully.

While the Acholi cultural leader Onen David Acana II emphasised the need to observe and respect humanity.

The football tournament was watched by excited sponsors from the UK and Australia.

As the Ugandans and south Sudanese mixed freely, the guests were treated to intricate traditional dances.

The sponsors say the aim of this tournament is to use football as an instrument to meet and unite people

This year, the participating teams came from the districts of Amuru, Lamwo, Adjumani, Yumbe, Koboko, Moyo and Nimule in South Sudan.
