Pastor's son wanted for attempted murder

By David Ochieng

Police is looking for Emmanuel Okoro, the 30-year-old son of Pastor Philemon Ongole for attempted murder. Okoro is accused of attempting to kill his step-daughter, four year old Joan Mirembe.

Okoro allegedly slashed Joan's stomach several times. Joan's life was saved after a neighbour rushed her to Tororo Main Hospital for medical attention.

Okoro attacked Joan on November 20th, 2018 at his salon.

An eye witness Madina Akuno recalls that Joan's mother seemed more interested in getting Okoro's family to foot her daughter's medical bills than prosecuting him for the attack. Akuno says that Joan's mother Teddy Awori could not understand why Okoro had attacked her daughter as they had not had any recent marital problems.

The family lives in Agururu ‘B’ village.

Tororo district police commander John Rutaagira says Joan's mother has a case to answer for failing to report the attack.

DPC Rutaagira goes on to say police has opened investigations into the matter and is looking for Okoro. Upon arrest, Okoro will be charged with attempted murder.

Joan is in recovery though she still has difficulty breathing and sitting up unaided.

Okoro's father Pastor Philemon Ongole runs Deliverance Church in Tororo.
