Speaking at
the function, Musisi applauded President Museveni for giving her opportunity to
serve Ugandans as the accounting officer for KCCA.
“When I was appointed to this position, I made a promise to work hard and transform the city. I would like to thank the appointing officer for entrusting me with the duty to serve and add a brick on the development of the country,”Musisi said.
“I want to
thank the people of Uganda for encouraging and criticizing us where we had not
done well.”
Musisi said
that for the seven years she has been at the helm, the city has seen a great
improvement but noted that the achievements were a collective effort of
everyone in Kampala.
She also
applauded the Kampala Minister, Beti Kamya for the support she has rendered to
her during the short time they have worked together.
“I promised
to build a capital city that Ugandans would yearn for and this has been
realized. I pray the transformation journey will continue with the team I am
leaving behind for a better city.”
She however
warned against tampering with the team she has left behind, urging that it
should be given time to deliver better results than herself.
“If the
management team at KCCA is supported and given time to continue with their
work, they can further develop the city.”
Beti Kamya
applauded Musisi for the good job in transforming Kampala from the ruins it was
in to an admirable world city.
“I must
commend her for the professionalism she has exhibited for the seven years she
has been at KCCA. This is unprecedented in
Uganda. Her name is going to remain her(City Hall) for many years due to
the legacy she has left behind,”Kamya said.
The Kampala
Minister however allayed fears of a gap left behind by Musisi’s departure
saying she has left behind a competent team that will handle work at KCCA.
“She has
left behind a committed team and I assure everyone that there will be no gap in
service delivery in Kampala. Work will continue smoothly,”Musisi said.
The Kampala
minister however assured KCCA employees that there will not be any major
shakeup, noting that they will retain their jobs, contrary to various
allegations.
In October,
Jennifer Musisi tendered in her 21 page resignation letter to President
Museveni.
On Friday, Musisi
handed over the office of Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director to
Kampala Minister Beti Kamya in the absence of her replacement.
Speaking
about Musisi’s replacement, Kamya said that despite receiving her resignation,
Museveni has not yet responded to it.
“The
president has not yet responded to the resignation letter but will do it in the
due course. I want to assure you that by Monday, everyone will have known what
will happen next,”Kamya said.
