Kadaga to MPs: Go online and vote Miss Uganda in World Competition

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has rooted for Uganda’s beauty queen, Ms Quiin Abenakyo currently contesting for Miss world in China.

Kadaga while presiding over plenary Wednesday asked legislators to go online and vote for Abenakyo, also commending her for representing the country so well.

"Now honorable members, we have our own, a Ugandan beauty Quiin Abenakyo representing our country and I urge members to go on the website and vote for her,” Kadaga said.

Quiin Abenakyo is competing in the 68th edition of miss world taking place in Sanya China and during hotly contested head to head challenge, she defeated miss Argentina.

During her presentation she emphasised on ending teenage pregnancies in Uganda.

“My Beauty with a purpose project is fighting teenage pregnancies as one out of four girls aged 13 to 17 is either pregnant or a mother. This is very disheartening. As I look at all the ladies here, I must say we are really blessed that we do not have to go through all that because we can’t say the same for all our sisters out there,” she said.

Together with the Miss Uganda Foundation, we have a Keep A Girl-Child in School programme and this is to enable and to encourage girls to go back to school, give them the necessary resources and skills that will enable them go back to school. I believe when you educate a girl-child, you are educating the entire community. And the biggest platform one can ever have is Miss World,” she added.

Currently Quiin stands at in the 5th position at 3.9 percent, several yards above most of the other contestants.

In the lead position is Nepal’s Shrinkhala Khatiwada with a staggering 32.35 per cent, Enkhriimaa Erdenebaatar of Mongolia at 17.66 per cent, and Vy Tran of Vietnam who stands 6.82%.
