EU to look into cause of refugee influx into Uganda

The European Union has applauded Uganda' positive attitude towards accommodating refugees in the country, promising to probe the root causes of influx of refugees in the country.

The delegation of European ambassadors which camped in Hoima district paid a courtesy visit to Kyangwali refugee settlement camp in Kikuube district which they fund to a tune of 85 million euros a year through the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).

The Belgium ambassador to Uganda Albrecht Conze said  said that the influx is overwhelming to the host country and the root causes should be documented for future planning .

He disclosed to the media that talks are underway with the Ugandan government to find a solution to the regional conflicts that are the leading cause of the influx of refugees to Uganda.

Jolly Kebirungi, the camp commandant at Kyangwali  refugee resettlement highlighted the challenges they are facing to resettle the refugees.
