KCCA adds to Basena’s misery in Uganda Premier League

A Jackson Nunda goal on his first touch after coming in for  Lawrence Bukenya was enough for the 12 time Ugandan champions KCCA to beat record champions SC Villa at home in Namboole in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League on Tuesday.

In a high intensity end to end and five goal thriller on Tuesday evening, the visitors emerged victors and added more misery to SC Villa coach Moses Basena’s woes.

SC Villa took the lead through Albert Mugisha’s long range blockbuster with his right foot outside the 18 yard box in the 13th minute but this was short-lived as Mutebi’s boys responded well with a powerful Julius Poloto header off a Timothy Awany layoff from the left flank, only four minutes later to level matters at Namboole.

The Kasasiro boys almost took the lead shortly but Filbert Obenchan’s bicycle kick flew inches off the goal but they never rested until the 32nd minute when Manco Kaweesa connected himself as he tried to block a Poloto lay off from the left for KCCA to take the lead in an end to end game.

Meanwhile, SC Villa restored parity in the added minutes of the first stanza when Bashir Mutanda saw the back of the net off a throw-in for both teams to go into recess tied.

Come super sub

Like he did during the game against Vipers SC in Kitende on Saturday and breathed more life into the team, Mike Mutebi again introduced talented Jackson Nunda in the 60th minute to replace the knackered Lawrence Bukenya.

It didn’t require him more than 1 minute on pitch to put that behind the net when he headed home off his first touch after an Obenchan throw-in landed onto his head for KCCA’s third goal and the subsequent winner at Namboole.

The win catapulted the Kasasiro boys to the summit of the StarTimes Premier League on 15 points from seven games whereas the defeat condemned Basena’s SC Villa to their fourth loss as they remain second bottom with only three points out of seven games.
