Vipers, KCCA FC share spoils as game lives to its billing

At the end of the final whistle, each of the biggest and most organised clubs currently in Ugandan football had a fair share as Vipers SC shared spoils with KCCA FC at the St.Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League game between the two giants on Saturday didn’t disappoint as each team had moments of joy as those to grief about with a number of breathtaking moments dominating the game in Kitende.

Having dominated the first 45 minutes, the hosts deservedly took the lead through a Mzee Dan Sserunkuuma easy tap off a Duncan Sseninde cross to go past Charles Lukwago in the 35th minute to turn the Kitende fans into frenzy.

Vipers carried the lead to recess prompting KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi to scratch his head for possible ways that would see him make a comeback.

KCCA Dominate

Realizing that in the first half his team had not been to their best game, Mutebi withdrew Mustafa Kiiza for new boy Muwadda Mawejje before the chances paid off with an equalizer.

Only two minutes after recess, defender Halid Lwaliwa brought down youngster Allan Okello before the centre referee Alex Muhabi waved for a freekick at the edge of the box.

Okello didn’t not disappoint when his well taken freekick was taken advantage of by defender Filbert Obenchan for the visitors’ equalizer.

Since then, KCCA dominated the second half and on a number occasions they came close to taking the lead through Allan Kyambadde, only for Vipers to survive by a whisker.

In the 67th minute, the Kasasiro boys were at it again when Kyambadde was released by Okello only for the former to be brought down by Halid Lwaliwa prompting the centre referee to award a penalty.

However, the Lugogo side was let down when midfielder Saddam Juma missed the penalty to deny them a chance to take the lead.

Speaking shortly after the game, KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi described the game as the best advertisement for Ugandan football.

“It was a good advertisement for Ugandan football as the best two clubs played good football,” Mutebi said.

“However I am disappointed with the result. We dominated everything and could have scored like five goals. The result didn’t reflect what was on the pitch.”

On the other side, Vipers’ Mexican coach Javier Martinez Espinoza admitted the game was not easy for his team.

“It was a tough game. We made a number of mistakes that we should have rectified,” Espinoza said during the post- match press conference.

The result leaves Vipers still at the top of the table on 14 points closely followed by BUL on 13 points whereas KCCA are 3rd on 12 points after six games in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

SC Villa woes continue as Express win
