The allure that the Masaza g’a Buganda football tournament brings has interested other cultural institutions to start their own football events.

The latest to do so is Alur Kingdom whose second edition of the Alur Kopu Pa Ubimu football tournament starts this weekend.

With the first edition providing enough thrills and talent aplenty, Alur Kingdom is bracing for the second edition of the Alur Kopu Pa Ubimu football tournament.

It’ is composed of teams from Nebbi, Zombo and Pakwach with a guest team from democratic republic of Congo contesting a select Ugandan side on the opening day.

This tournament is the equivalent of the Masaza tournaments in Buganda, Busoga and Bunyoro and is powered by Uganda Breweries through its Senator brand.

“As a brand, we are pleased to be part of the celebrations which will unite the Alur people to showcase their unique culture through sports and music,” said Cathy Twesigye the Senator Value Beer Brand Manager.

It’s first edition provided talent such as Paidha Black Angels that now plays in the top league in the country.

This year’s edition will be played on theme of empowering youth through culture.

“Football is a big deal in the West Nile region and it brings together many youth who eventually can end up playing in the top tier league or the national team said Rt Hon. Vincent Ochaya, the Alur Kingdom Premier.

The tournament will attract 16 teams including reigning champions Zeu, Omua, Pakwach Young eagles, Mision Stars, Paidha United, Parombo and Nyapea among others

The grand finale is scheduled to be played in Pakwach on 8th December 2018 and will be graced by the Alur king Ubimu Philip Olarker Runi III.
