Man arrested for stealing ambulance

In one of the rarest cases,Police in Iganga are holding a man suspected to have stolen an ambulance from Isimba dam, the Nile Post has learnt.

The ambulance involved is a land crusier registration number UAW 9842 belonging to China International Water and Electric Corporation, a Chine government owner power company involved in the construction of Isimba dam

It is alleged that on Friday, the ambulance driver, one Abdul Mufimbiro convinced his bosses to allow him take it to a nearby washing bay for cleaning it.

“On driving it out, he handed it to someone who crossed with it on a ferry to Iganga,”Sseizbwa regional police spokesperson Hellen Butoto said.

It is said that after sometime, officials from the Chinese company became suspicious because Mufimbiro was nowhere to be seen prompting them to report to police that mounted roadblocks and the ambulance was later impounded in Iganga.

One Musa Kagoda, who was driving it at the time of the impounding was arrested whereas efforts to arrest Mufimbiro who is on the run are underway as investigations into the matter continue.

The case is one of the rarest one recorded by police.

In June, police in Kyotera district arrested a man suspected to have attempted to steal and ambulance from Kalisizo referral hospital.

It is alleged that Ismail Musaasizi, a resident of Namasuba, Makindye Sabagabo division in Wakiso district  and claimed to be a boda boda rider was hired by two men to assist them steal the ambulance from the hospital before he was apprehended.
