Security intercept suspected explosives sent to Clinton, Obama,CNN offices

Five packages containing suspected explosive devices were on Wednesday intercepted by security en route to some of the most prominent political figures in the US.

The explosive devices wrapped properly in packages had been sent to homes of former President Barack Obama and former secretary of state, Hillary Clinton and CNN, New York offices prompting evacuations and sweeps at the premises.

The hunt for a serial mail bomber began on Tuesday night when Secret Service personnel conducting standard mail screenings found a pipe bomb inside a plain manila envelope with a bubble-wrapped interior addressed to Clinton.

The suspicious package addressed to Clinton’s Chappaua New York home was intercepted before being investigated by FBI, secret service and the Westchester county police department.

A similarly packaged bomb was found hours later in mail addressed to former president Barack Obama.

According to law enforcement officers, by the time of discovery, none of the bombs had gotten close to its intended target and neither did they contain any written message but the discoveries led to other undetonated devices at CNN headquarters in New York and at a district office of Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

In his first public remarks about the packages that largely targeted Democratic Party figures, US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday afternoon that the devices are being inspected, "and a major federal investigation is now underway."

"We have to unify. We have to come together," Trump said, at a bill-signing for opioid legislation. "Acts or threats of political violence of any kind have no place in the United States of America."
