Residents of Namungoona II, in Lubaga Division yesterday stormed the office of the designate National Resistance Movement (NRM) village chairman to forcefully evict a one Samuel Kayongo who declared self legally elected and also grabbed the office to start ‘work’.

Kayongo who was the secretary general in the previous NRM village committee, lost to Nakibirige Gertrude Biira in an election that raised 10 candidates, but he claimed a woman cannot handle operations in such a huge office, hence taking over the office and declaring himself chairman.

Residents claim that Kayongo has also been issuing letters meant for the Local Council 1 chairman.

“We were 10 in the race, I was the only woman and I won. I don’t know why he is acting in my position, who will be held accountable if something goes wrong?” Nakibirige wondered.

Kayongo was grilled for sometime and asked to hand over all office property including files and stamps. However, he only handed over a few things which Nakibirige and group refused saying he needed to hand over everything at once and leave the office.

Residents advised Kayongo to join Nakibirige who is the legally elected leader where he can offer his services voluntarily or on appointment instead of causing unnecessary chaos.

Kayongo however claims residents are only fighting him, with the aim of chasing him from the village.

“They have persecuted me enough, it is high time they stopped because they wont take me away from this village,” Kayongo argued.
