Besigye attacks Minister Rwamirama over collapsing bridges in Isingiro

Former Forum for Democratic Change leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye has attacked State Defence and Veteran affairs for failure to work on four bridges in his constituency, Isingiro north, that broke down four years ago. The broken bridges connect Nyamuyanja Sub County to both Nyakitunda and Kabuyanda sub counties in Isingiro south, in Isingiro district.

Residents of Isingiro North constituency in Isingiro district blocked retired Col. Dr. Kizza Besigye, who was destined for a fundraising at Kyeihwa Catholic Church, leading him to some of the broken bridges in Nyamuyanza Sub County.

The residents claim that ever since the bridges broke down four years ago, their representative in parliament who also doubles as a state defense minister in charge of veteran affairs Lt. Col. Bright Rwamirama has not been of any help.

While addressing the angry residents, Besigye asked Rwamirama to resign, accusing him of failing to address issues affecting the locals.

This has made transportation and movement of people difficult in the district.

Besigye also accused the minister of splashing taxpayers’ money in the recently concluded Sheema North polls instead of using the money to fix the forgotten bridges.

Earlier in the day, Besigye attended the thanks giving for the FDC elected chairpersons in Nyamuyanja Sub County. Sub County Chief could not explain why the bridges have not been worked on for the last four years. However minister Bright Rwamirama could not be reached as his known mobile phones were switched off.
