Tororo: Government moves in to revamp road network

GEORGE MATEMBU

The people of Osukulu sub-county in Tororo have reason to smile following the commencement of Sabasaba road project.

A total of over 14.5 km shall be rehabilitated at a cost Shs 633 million by the ministry of Works.

The project also includes construction of 4 bridges which had become impassable especially during the rainy season.

The road is expected to ease movement and access to social amenities such as schools, markets and health facilities

Stella Imuktet, the acting LC V chairperson for Tororo said the road had for long been a menace to the  community especially during the rainy season but the district had been incapacitated to repair it due to inadequate funding.

According to Kamba Ismail Ali, an engineer in the ministry of Works,  the project comprises widening and gravelling of 14.5km of the 45 km stretch and construction of drainage facilities and bridges.

Asaya Andrew Peter the district engineer attributed the delayed rehabilitation of the road to inadequate funding adding that intervention by the mother ministry was long overdue.

"The district receives Shs 569m annually  to maintain a road network of 628km. We cannot do much," he said.

The project was officially flagged off by the area MP Fredrick Angura at Aputiri village.
