One remanded over ASP Muhammad Kirumira’s murder

The magistrate’s court in Wakiso has charged and remanded  one person over the murder of former Buyende DPC, Muhammad Kirumira.

Kirumira was on the evening of September 8 shot dead together with one Resty Mbabazi Nalinya, at Bulenga, Wakiso district, along the Kampala – Mityana road.

On Thursday afternoon, Abubaker Kalungi, a resident of Mulimira zone,Kibutika village in Makindye Sssabagabo municipality was charged with two counts of murder of Kirumira and Mbabazi.

Wakiso court grade one magistrate Martin Kirya however never allowed Kalungi to take plea because he is  facing a capital offence that can only be tried by the High Court before remanding him to Kigo prison until October 19.

Since Kirumira’s gruesome murder, over 12 people including police officers and others attached to the police Flying Squad Unit have been arrested over the shooting.

Some of the suspects arrested over the murder are Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ismail Senono, the officer in charge of operations at Old Kampala Police Station, David Bamwesigye and Deus Byaruhanga, a former driver with the Flying Squad among others.

On Saturday, police announced they in a joint security operation had on Friday raided a suspected terror cell in Namungoona, Rubaga division in Kampala in which nine suspects were arrested and one of dead shot dead during the operation.

“In the course of arresting the nine suspects, one Abdul Kateregga was injured and while he was being taken to hospital for medical attention, he bled due to injuries sustained and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mulago hospital,” the police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said in a statement.

President Museveni early this week praised the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence for busting a suspected terror cell in Namungoona, Rubaga division and the operation led to killing of Abdul Kateregga, suspected to be part of the people who participated in Kirumira’s murder.

“I am sure I am speaking on behalf of many of you when I congratulate the CMI squads which arrested a number of suspects in the killing of ASP Kirumira on Friday night,”Museveni said in a statement.

He said that one of the suspects arrested during the operation was a former Allied Democratic Forces member who had been granted amnesty by government.

“In the process, one of them, by the names of Kateregga Abdu, was shot and later died of his injuries. It turns out that Kateregga was one of the ADF terrorists that had benefited from Amnesty in the past.”

“This, therefore, is to put on notice all the killers that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23 ).”
