President Museveni has praised the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI), the investigation wing of the UPDF over a raid it carried out on a suspected terror cell in Kampala.
On Saturday, police announced they in a joint security operation had on Friday raided a suspected terror cell in Namungoona, Rubaga division in Kampala in which nine suspects were arrested and one of dead shot dead during the operation.
“In the course of arresting the nine suspects, one Abdul Kateregga was injured and while he was being taken to hospital for medical attention, he bled due to injuries sustained and was pronounced dead on arrival at Mulago hospital,” the police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said in a statement.
Little information about the operation was provided then by the police but in his latest statement,Museveni has divulged more information.
Museveni lifts lid
Meanwhile, the president has lifted the lid off the story on the operation revealing that the suspects are accused of being part of the group that killed former Buyende DPC Muhammad Kirumira last month.
Museveni has praised CMI operatives for the job well done in busting the terror cell.
“I am sure I am speaking on behalf of many of you when I congratulate the CMI squads which arrested a number of suspects in the killing of ASP Kirumira on Friday night,”Museveni said in a statement.
He said that one of the suspects arrested during the operation was a former Allied Democratic Forces member who had been granted amnesty by government.
“In the process, one of them, by the names of Kateregga Abdu, was shot and later died of his injuries. It turns out that Kateregga was one of the ADF terrorists that had benefited from Amnesty in the past.”
“This, therefore, is to put on notice all the killers that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23 ).”
He noted that the suspects will soon appear in courts of law but urged any member of the public with information about the group to avail it to police.
ASP Muhammad Kirumira was shot dead by unknown assailants allegedly travelling on motorcycles near his home in Bulenga, along the Kampala- Mityana road on the evening of September 8.
The arrest of nine people during the Friday night raid now brings the number of people arrested over the murder to over 12 including police officers and others attached to the police Flying Squad Unit.
