The Venoms embarrassing failure to win their first double last season and failure to retain some of their senior players and Technical staff, consequently losing the Super Cup leaves the new signings with a point to prove in this new season.

They kick-off the new campaign on Friday at home to Ndejje, who will be making their first appearance in the Top flight this season. After an embarrassing feat in Wankulukuku, Espinoza is expected to make sweeping changes when he names his squad today.

Focus at the St. Mary’s will be on former KCCA FC striker Tito Okello, who just returned from China and Burundian goalkeeper Fabien Mutombora, who all look ready for a new life at Kitende. The spotlight will also fall on Espinoza in his first home league game after coming in from Juventus Managua - Nicaragua and has since lost a number of preseason games - including the Super Cup.

Espinoza has been handed a slightly weakened squad with a host of players sold. Nicolas Wadada, Ismail Watenga, James Alitho and Erisa Ssekisambu are among the high-profile players that have since left the Club, while Henry Katongole is yet to settle in due to personal problems

Regardless, he is expected to ensure Vipers pick up where they left off last season when they secured their third title on the final day.

While Vipers will need to put their struggles to gel aside, Ndejje aren’t safe either as they will miss the services of Bajid Mujadeen and Francis Onekalit who both would have been great for the promoted side on the day.

Vipers drew 0-0 away to Bright Stars in their league opener last season and should things start the same way, they could be headed for early season chaos.
