VIDEO: FDC leaning Independent candidate pulls out of Sheema MP race

The Independent candidate in the Sheema North parliamentary by-election Felix Mujuni has withdrawn his candidature and will now rally behind his FDC counterpart Guma Betiikura Nuwagaba.

This leaves the latter and NRM's Naome Kibaaju as the only candidates in the battle for Elioda Tumwesigye's replacement.

Initially Mujuni, had been chosen to carry the FDC party flag but was later dropped after he failed to resign as a government leader. He however refuted the claims saying he had permission from the ministry of education and sports to stand. He was consequently nominated as an independent candidate.

“There was lack of coordination within our part, some party officials arranged the candidacy of Guma without consulting the ground,” he said.

The decision to step down has been reached following consultation with a section of party officials that include party strongman Dr Kizza Besigye.

“I had rejected any kind of dialogue between me and those individuals, but when the party president called me in Kampala, I said it is high time,” Mujuni said.

“So if we are quarrelling within FDC it is the party to lose. We have some principles that should be respected, Guma has already got that stamp from the party and it cant be withdrawn whether I fight or not.”
