GRAND SELECTION GUIDE

PREMIER LEAGUE

This weekend, Matchday-five puts leaders, Chelsea’s time at the top to a test with a visit to the London Stadium, home to West Ham who just got their first points away at Goodison Park.

West Ham have fared well against Chelsea in recent years 2W & 8G goals scored a piece over the last six meetings. The Hammers have also won three of their last four home games against Chelsea and could exploit any extra game load on Maurizio Sarri's team who had a draining Europa League match away to Greek side, PAOK on Thursday.

This is a real test for Maurizio Sarri. With the Thursday games in the picture, the Blues must find a way to get past this and if they fall from first position this weekend, they may never return.  It is a real test for the early league leaders but they should find a way a way to go past the hammers.

Place it safe; Go for both teams to score and trust Chelsea to condemn West Ham to another loss.

The other games will have the battle of Portuguese when Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United hosts Nuno Espírito Santo’s Wolverhampton.

Wolves, are unbeaten in four and have won their last three outings and are not just about to make it any easy for United, but United have started finding rhythm to their game and at Old Trafford and their Champions league display should give them a better bearing for three.

Go for United to win, both teams to score.

Two losses in a row for Tottenham plus injuries to Hugo Lloris makes them very vulnerable on the road to Brighton but City should recover from their midweek lapse to ease past Cardiff.

SPANISH PRIMERA LEAGUE

FC Barcelona had a tough game against Sociedad last week and Girona should be an easier opponent (Getty Images)

The gap literally shifted from Goal Difference to Points following a difficult weekend for the two-sides – a visit to the Anoeta for the leaders and San Memes for los Blancos.

The Catalans remain the only side still boasting a perfect record following Real Madrid’s slip at Bilbao last weekend and now, they visit Girona who are coming off back to back wins including that stunning 3-2 over Celta Vigo.

Following their 4-0 win over PSV in the Champions League should get them past Girona despite the fact that they have found a way to score past the big boys (1-Madrid, 3-Celta Vigo…)

With no major injuries to Ernesto Valverde’s side, trust FC Barcelona but will concede.

A play-game against Roma, Real Madrid should be reset when they host Espanyol Today. Lopetegui's side are continuing to grow in confidence and the addition of Mariano Diaz to the striking options offers the depth that Madrid have always wanted.  There have been no injury problems in the early stages of the campaign.

Espanyol haven’t been off either and have suffered just one defeat so far this season.

At home, Real Madrid should win but Espanyol’s aggressiveness and intense style should get them a goal at least.

Here are the Tips to the rest of the games in la liga

German Bundesliga

Bayern should continue their title defense with an easy win over struggling Schalke 04.

Lessons learned for Mainz 05 and Wolfsburg who have started the 2018/19 season on a better note, just after surviving relegation but Schalke’s start could be getting worse with the count of games increasing in number every day with the Champions League becoming the latest.

Die Königsblauen have lost their first three matches and are under pressure after a 1-1 draw with Porto in the Champions League in midweek.

Manager Domenico Tedesco desperately needs his side to improve in attack and find more balance but Bayern are a bigger march for recovery.

Despite injuries to Corentin Tolisso, Thiago Alcantara, Kingsley Coman and Rafinha, Bayern should dominate the game from the outset for a 1-3 victory.

Italian Serie A

Cristiano Ronaldo should put his pain in Spain away and get to the scoring charts again this weekend.

A perfect start for Juventus and their visit to Frosinone should not be anything to worry about after their 2-0 Champions League win away at Juventus.

A disturbed Ronaldo who had just broken his duck in the Serie A should put himself together and add to his tally this weekend.

SPAL have had enough time in second position and should submit to Napoli who visit Torino with a loss to Fiorentina.

French Ligue 1

Thomas Tuchel should get his guards back to winning ways at home despite a glitch in mid-week in England.

PSG have a chance to extend their lead in the Ligue 1 with a visit to Rennes as Marseille travel to Lyon in the weekend’s biggest game.

Rennes have without doubt had a decent start to the season, but after that fall to Liverpool in the Champions league, PSG have no ground to stay down and even without the likes of Mbappé and, perhaps, Neymar, PSG cannot settle for anything other than all three points.

Trust PSG to win and concede too.

Lyon and Marseille to play to a 2-2 draw.

Here’s the summary of the Ligue 1 Picks.
