Bobi Wine return: Youth condemn mistreatment of journalists

Youth under their umbrella group Inter-party Youth Platform (IYOP) have condemned police's action to block journalists from covering the return of Robert Kyagulanyi (aka Bobi Wine), the Kyadondo East MP from the US yesterday.

Addressing the media today, the youth said police's action infringed on the journalists' right to practice their trade freely and for the public to be informed.

Scores of journalists were briefly detained at various police posts in Entebbe where they had gone to cover the return of Kyagulanyi after spending two weeks in the US.

According to chairperson of the Inter Party Youth Platform, Iddi Ouma, this act needs to be condemned.

Ouma said: "We as members of IYOP condemn all forms of violence that were exhibited by security operatives. We appeal to security agencies to exercise calm and adopt friendly approaches to community policing.’’
