Ugandan Athletes welcomed from World Marathon Championship in Spain

Upon return from Spain where they won eleven medals at the World Mountain running championships on Saturday, the ten athletes that represented Uganda have today presented their medals to the National council of sports team led by acting general secretary Dr. Ogwel Patrick and AIGP Andrew Sorowen.

Uganda’s team captain Robert Chemonges led by example winning gold in the senior men’s competition, in which Uganda took all three places on the podium.

Chemonges revealed to Nile Post the how revenge motivated their performance.

“The competition was hard because it was a mountainous place not similar to Kapchorwa where we train from but we managed to win as a team. When we were running we were on mission to revenge against Americans who had won in the previous competition,”Chemonges said.

AIGP Andrew Sorowen, Uganda Police’s sports Liaison officer spoke with pride about his athletes who again flew the national flag high.

Half of the ten- man team for Uganda was from the police force.

For close to a decade, Uganda has been featuring at the World Marathon championships with the recent their most iconic performance.
