Bobi Wine faking disability while putting on 4kg shoes- Opondo

Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has joined a list of people who claim Kyadondo East Member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine’s inability to walk is exaggerated if not faked.

Bobi Wine was arrested and allegedly beaten on the eve of elections in Arua Municipality before being detained at Gulu Military barracks and later transferred to Makindye.

During his stay at Makindye, members of his family that accessed him and a section of opposition politicians claimed the singer cum politician had been tortured and could neither walk or sit.

However, a different group of legislators led by NRM’s Peter Ogwang would later claim they met the legislator in very good health and nibbling on Matooke and sipping on a huge cup of dry tea.

The deputy speaker of parliament, Jacob Oulanya also upon visiting Bobi Wine claimed the legislator was in a uniquely humorous mood, contrary to reports from family and opposition that the Kyarenga singer was teary and having so much difficulty talking.

Bobi Wine would later be produced at Gulu Court Martial walking on crutches and supported by relatives, except with timberland boots.

Speaking during an interview on NBS TV Monday morning, Ofwono Opondo said Bobi Wine is feigning disability. The government mouthpiece insisted that Bobi Wine could have been injured during the fracas in Arua but not the extent the singer is exhibiting.

“If you get into a fracas like one in Arua, you expect a scratch. Whether that scratch is intended or not is another issue. But he can't claim he can't walk yet he's wearing shoes of 2kgs each,” Opondo said.

“Bobi Wine was involved in a fracas and could have been injured but that doesn't definitively suppose that he was tortured. There's no physical wound and no broken limbs. He's feigning disability,” he added.

However, Opondo was brought to order by another guest on the show- Go Forward’s Communications Manager Josephine Mayanja Nkangi who said that government’s choice of keeping Bobi Wine for sometime was aimed at buying time to treat him.

“There was a distinctive time lapse between when Bobi Wine was taken and when he was produced. You waited until the physical injuries were no longer seen, if he wasn’t injured at all, they would have produced him right away, they were definitely buying time,” she said.

Yesterday, singer Moses Ssali alias Bebe Cool also cast doubt on his nemesis, Bobi Wine’s injuries, claiming the “kiwani” singer is only faking them, and the media is helping him maintain the lie.

According to Bebe Cool, the singer who has since his arrest and consequent torture- claimed through different parties including his wife that he can’t walk,  should not  be the same person putting on the ‘heaviest’ shoes.

“Media had their cameras watching this young man (Bobi Wine) walking to the car in Gulu, he held onto the car with one arm and raised the other with a crutch, what was down? Was he in air? Definitely he was standing on his feet,” Bebe Cool said.

“You look at the man putting on the heaviest shoe in life, one that even people who have no walking problems can’t put on since it is heavy and media does not analyse that? Why does he have a heavy shoe yet he claims he cant walk?” he added.
