VIDEO: Youth running to Bobi Wine because party failed to handle issues affecting them- NRM Boss

The NRM Deputy Secretary General Richard Todwong' has accused his party of failing to deliver, the reason he says has pushed the youths to go after Bobi Wine’s “People Power” movement as an alternative.

Speaking at a workshop to evaluate the NRM manifesto in Gulu, Todwong said the NRM needs to re- strategise for the country.

“We lost the elections in Jinja east, not because we are not mobilising enough but because of the status of service delivery. The same is for Rukungiri, Bugiri and Arua elections. If we keep hiding our heads under the sun, we keep covering problems for ourselves.”

Todwong said the recent outburst with the youth in support of youthful Kyadondo east legislator Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, is because they look to him as solution to what party has failed to provide.

“When you see a young man like Bobi Wine coming to sing songs and young people running with him it is not because they are ideologically with him, they are with him because he is brave enough to speak the problems they are facing yet we as their leaders are quiet and therefore they turn their anger against us,” he said.

This is not the first time that Todwong is lashing out at his party, in April Todwong said the NRM government’s “disgusting” rate of greed and impunity will cause an upset within the population anytime soon.

“We also need to manage greed, during the debate of a transition, those in leadership position may want to collect as much as possible because they don’t see themselves coming back to power. That kind of greed, insensitivity to national issues makes people disgusted to those in government,” Todwong commenced his speech.

Corruption, greed nepotism are things that are making Ugandans more disgusted in the leadership of our party in government. I have to be honest because my church told me to, I have told this to the president,” he added.

Todwong explained he was equally worried that the government is failing in its primary role of  delivering services to its people and instead a certain section of people in government concentrating on self aggrandisement.

The former member of parliament lashed out at government officials for what he termed as “theft with impunity” and misuse of public resources, saying they are the reason the NRM will soon be pushed out to the streets.

“If we can’t restrain or control our greed in how we use public resource, how we steal with impunity, then Ugandans will push us out of power. The hills of Kampala are expanding with buildings but schools and hospitals are shrinking, so where do people get this money from?” Todwong posed.

“And the owners of these structures are commissioners, permanent secretaries, ministers and directors, people are disgusted,” he added.

Meanwhile the minister for Presidency, Esther Mbayo blamed their misfortunes on the media which she accused of choosing to focus on the negatives of government rather than its achievements

“The problem the government has is the press, you really exaggerate simple things and leave tangible things government has done. Talk about the roads that you have used to travel,” she said.
